TERMINATE AND STAY RESIDENT(TSR) FILES

INTRODUCTION
All programs related to the operating system are first of all loaded into the memory once a computer is booted. Terminate and Stay Resident (TSR) Programs are also loaded into the memory. Besides, these programs will stay out of the way until when they are needed. Terminate and Stay Resident (TSR) Programs are loaded into the computer memory of the us of Autoexec. Bat.
Commands for Auto exec. Bat
The commands used in Autoxec. Bat. include set. prompt path etc. When a computer is booted Ms - DOS checks for an Autoexec. Bat files only. It therefore neccessay to reboot a computer whenever there is changes in the auto exec. bat file.
Setting Number of files and bufferes
Buffers may be described as the temporary locations in the memory in which MS-DOS stores information in groups of bytes when it reads from disks or prepares to write on disks. Buffers command is used for changing the number of buffers.
Setting the number of Files
The number of files Ms-Dos can keep open at the same time is mainly determined by files. In order to be on the safer side by not using too much files at a time. It is advisable that file commands are included in config. sys. file
Config. System
The instructions Ms-Dos needs to operate or work effectively with the computer. The memory programs and devices are contained in config. sys. file.
Commands for config.sys.
The command for config. sys. are very useful and important to the computer. However, it may not be possible to type those commands at the Ms-Dos prompt. They include files, drive, buffer and device.
MS-dos Hardware
Ms-Dos makes use of some basic hardware related commands for the management of hardware. Such commands are:
Mode: This command is used for managing several hardware devices such as the keyboard printer screen and the modem.
Print: print command is used for print some text files without the trouble of starting application program.
Name Assigned to Hardware by DOS
MS-DOS assigns names to hardware in order to differentiate one hardware from one another. For example keyboard and monitor are known as con- console.
